Thyme essential oil and its dynamic compound, thymol, have been shown to possess powerful germicide properties, which is the reason why the majority of antiseptic wipes and mouthwashes have thymol listed among their ingredients.

Recent research also indicates that thyme essential oil can even relieve pain, which is not really surprising when we consider that many common medicaments have used thyme and other essential oils for pain relief.

Study indicates that thyme oil is better at relieving pain than Ibuprofen

Researchers from the Babol University of Medical Sciences in Iran found that thyme acts as a powerful pain reliever as well as reducing menstrual pain more effectively than Ibuprofen.

The study included 84 women aged 15 to 24, who suffered from painful menstrual cycles and dysmenorrhea.  This condition affects from 20 to 90 % of women in their reproductive phase and can be characterized by painful cramps and other side effects such as headaches, dizziness, diarrhea, nausea and back pain.

Thymol is the active component in thyme oil which has been shown to improve healing by increasing blood flow to the skin.  It secures the healthy fats, such as DHA omega-3, in the cells of the brain, heart and kidneys.  It is great in combination with lemon, lavender, grapefruit, pine and bergamot
