These Are The Recommended Sleep Times According To The National Sleep Foundation

Sleeping disorders are conditions that affect the ability to sleep well, and they can be caused by a health problem or by too much stress. The statistics in the USA says that more than 75 percent of Americans between ages 20 and 59 report having sleeping difficulties, almost regularly.

Those issues can interfere daily life, and have a negative impact on energy, mood, concentration, and overall health, causing the development of many ailments.

The National Sleep Foundation found that the recommended number of sleeping hours depends on the age factor. But the quality of your sleep is caused, also, by the energy you got throughout the day, and affects your health condition.

The factors that Cause sleep disorders

The modern technology and stress are the most common factors for sleep disorders.

For instance, stress stimulates the secretion of cortisol, and the excessive secretion of the stress hormone causes a sleep disorder, discomfort, and sickness, while the light released by technological devices blocks the production of melatonin.

The people with unhealthy sleeping are usually prone to fatigue that makes them unable to make decisions think clearly and even eat.

According to the scientists, there is, also a strong link between sleep disorders and health problems. So sleeping less than five hours a night can affect your heart and less than 7 hours creates conditions for the development of severe health problems like diabetes and uncontrolled weight gain.

New guidelines for sleep hours

The marvelous research about the sleeping problems was done by Charles Czeisler, a professor at Harvard University and his team of experts in the period between 2004 and 2014.

They aimed to determine the proper time of sleeping for every age group and the effects of sleeping on overall health.

Below you can see the results of the Czeisler’s research:

–           Newborn from 0-3 months needs sleep of 14-17 hours.

–           Babies from 4-11 months need 12-15 hours of sleep.

–           Children from 1-2 years old need 11-14 hours of sleep.

–           Preschool from 3-5 years old need 10-13 hours of sleep.

–           School Age from 6-13 years old need 9-11 hours of sleep.

–           Teens from 14-17 years old – 8-10 hours.

–           Youth from 18-25 years old – 7-9 hours.

–           Adults from 26-64 years old – 7-9 hours.

–           Seniors over 65 years old – 7-8 hours.

Having in mind all mentioned above, try to get enough rest throughout the night and avoid any risk for your health.
